Since established in 1955, PACE continually strives to advance the profession of childhood education. California  has a diverse population and soci0-econminc composition which has allowed for the development of an equally diverse response to the early education needs of children.

According to the most recent data compiled by California’s Resource and Referral Network (R&R Network) nearly 64% of California’s early care and education is provided by private licensed centers. PACE members, who represent this percentage, advocate for the continued professional development  of those who provide early learning opportunities for California’s children and the sustainability of the support services that help strengthen their families.

PACE believes that EVERYDAY is a great day to Stand Up for Children and to be an advocate for California’s early care and education system!

Interested in learning how to become more involved with being an advocate? Visit the PACE Action Center to learn more about how you can Stand Up for Children and advocate for the early care and education system throughout California and our Nation.

  2. Budgets from a Children’s Perspective

by PACE in Category: Advocacy,Child Behavior/Development,Everyday,For The Adults,PACE

On March 20, 2013 the bipartisan children’s advocacy organization First     Focus released a comparison of the federal fiscal year 2014 budget  resolutions scheduled for floor consideration in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives this week. The analysis concludes that the Senate proposal protects federal investments in America’s children, while the House proposal would impede progress on problems facing children.

“The Senate budget protects critical investments in kids, while the House budget would make nearly every problem children face worse,” said First Focus President Bruce Lesley.

  4. It’s Friday. Go on a Direction Scavenger Hunt!

by PACE in Category: At Your Center/School,Child Behavior/Development,Everyday,For The Adults,Just For Fun,Uncategorized

It’s Friday and everyone is ready for the weekend…even the youngest among us.

Staying focused in the afternoon can be challenging, but keeping a Preschooler’s attention (much less 12+ of them) on a Friday afternoon can even be more challenging, but here’s a simple and great activity to continue the learning momentum…

    Direction Scavenger Hunt

Direction Scavenger Hunt, is like a revamped version of a game you probably remember from childhood: Hot and Cold. Instead of telling the seeker (in this case your Preschooler) if they’re getting “warmer” or “colder” as they narrow in on a hidden object, you’ll use words like up, down, over, and under.

Sure it’s simple, but it’s fun, and it will arm children with some directional vocabulary they should master in time for kindergarten. Wanna play? Click here,  to download the Direction Scavenger Hunt.

  5. Encourage children to play!

by Katie O'Neil in Category: Child Behavior/Development,For The Adults,PACE

Creating an atmosphere where children are encouraged to play and participate can have long lasting positive effects.  This type of environment can encourage and create a lifestyle of activity and movement for years to come.  Team Nutrition from the USDA has created a worksheet to help you create just that type of environment for your centers, as well as share with parents to keep the activity going at home!

  9. Budget announced tomorrow

by Katie O'Neil in Category: Advocacy,PACE

I realize that posting this here may be “preaching to the choir” but as we near Governor Brown’s announcement of the budget tomorrow we face, yet again, potential cuts to child care.

In an article in today’s Sacramento Bee Governor Brown referenced his plan and that he plans to increase funding for K-12 education and higher education.  Which upon first glance might make us feel like this is good news, a Governor who understands the importance of education over prison.  However, as I read on that doesn’t stretch to us, unfortunately.

“Despite proposed increases in education spending, Brown suggested other areas of the state budget wouldn’t be so fortunate, even naming areas such as state-subsidized child care and the court system, both of which have endured significant cuts since the recession.”

You can read the full story here.

Our Public Policy Committee is already mobilizing but we definitely are going to need your action in the coming weeks.  You can always go to our PACE Action Center for more info.

Tomorrow, be sure to watch the streaming press conference by Governor Brown! Let’s make sure we are a part of this discussion.  To find out where and when the Governor will be speaking in the future visit his website.

  10. Could you use some guidance?

by Katie O'Neil in Category: At Your Center/School,Child Behavior/Development,PACE

Never fear there are comprehensive Child Care Provider guides available as a resource on the Let’s Move Child Care site.

The first is guide by Nemours KidsHealth.org and is a comprehensive guide with outlines best on age and developmental stage.

Another option available is the Healthy Habits for Life Resource Kit that was a collaboration between Sesame Workshop, Nemours, and Nemours’ KidsHealth.org. It has links to download the guide in either English or Spanish as well as additional videos and resources from Sesame Workshop.

If neither of these work for you there are even more options on the page for you to explore!
