  1. Know what’s going on with DSS

by Katie O'Neil in Category: Advocacy,PACE

Today’s Tip may be an obvious one for the Owners and Directors of Early Care and Education centers out there but it’s worth repeating and pointing out.

PACE has a very active committee that works directly with the Department of Social Services – Child Care Licensing Division on behalf of PACE members.  Every meeting that committee brings concerns from the membership regarding licensing, violations and anything else brought to our attention and those concerns are addressed.

The DSS-CCLD site is a great place for you to bookmark in your browser and check back there regularly.  Here are some other quick links that we have as a result of our relationship with them.

  2. Keep Cats Out of Your Sandbox

by Admin in Category: At Your Center/School,Everyday

To keep cats and animals out of the sandbox, pour vinegar around the perimeter. They don’t like the smell and won’t go near it. Also pour it around the perimeter of the yard to keep them out. You can buy 2 two gallon bottles at Costco inexpensively. Do it every couple of months.

DSS Community Care Liscensing came out for a random visit and asked about a cover for the sandbox and I explained the vinegar and she was pleased with the idea. It is organic and clean. It is better to apply it on a Friday evening or you may have children smelling like vinegar!
