Since established in 1955, PACE continually strives to advance the profession of childhood education. California  has a diverse population and soci0-econminc composition which has allowed for the development of an equally diverse response to the early education needs of children.

According to the most recent data compiled by California’s Resource and Referral Network (R&R Network) nearly 64% of California’s early care and education is provided by private licensed centers. PACE members, who represent this percentage, advocate for the continued professional development  of those who provide early learning opportunities for California’s children and the sustainability of the support services that help strengthen their families.

PACE believes that EVERYDAY is a great day to Stand Up for Children and to be an advocate for California’s early care and education system!

Interested in learning how to become more involved with being an advocate? Visit the PACE Action Center to learn more about how you can Stand Up for Children and advocate for the early care and education system throughout California and our Nation.

  3. It’s Friday. Go on a Direction Scavenger Hunt!

by PACE in Category: At Your Center/School,Child Behavior/Development,Everyday,For The Adults,Just For Fun,Uncategorized

It’s Friday and everyone is ready for the weekend…even the youngest among us.

Staying focused in the afternoon can be challenging, but keeping a Preschooler’s attention (much less 12+ of them) on a Friday afternoon can even be more challenging, but here’s a simple and great activity to continue the learning momentum…

    Direction Scavenger Hunt

Direction Scavenger Hunt, is like a revamped version of a game you probably remember from childhood: Hot and Cold. Instead of telling the seeker (in this case your Preschooler) if they’re getting “warmer” or “colder” as they narrow in on a hidden object, you’ll use words like up, down, over, and under.

Sure it’s simple, but it’s fun, and it will arm children with some directional vocabulary they should master in time for kindergarten. Wanna play? Click here,  to download the Direction Scavenger Hunt.

  4. Some Natural Stress Remedies

by Katie O'Neil in Category: Everyday,For The Adults,PACE

So my newest kick is that I love finding great infographics online.  So while I was scanning the web for today’s blog post I came across one that really, in my opinion, spans all professions these days – stress!

There were actually a couple scary ones, like this one, that tell you about all the scary ways that stress can physically effect your body.  So after reviewing that one and self-diagnosing myself with most if not all those ailments (hypochondria anyone?) I deciding to keep looking and see if there was something that gave me ideas of how to beat the stress and hopefully start to alleviate those issues.

There are many sights with Top 10 lists or even a Top 100 list of ways to overcome stress.  But most of those involve introspection, and concious thought, and really, who has time for that these days, I’m just too stressed!

So I landed on this infographic.  While I think taking a look at the list of real solutions to stress is something I should definitely look at, in the meantime I want something that might make me feel better at the end of another long day!

    7 Herbal Remedies for Stress

What do you do to unwind at the end of a long day in the classroom? Or of managing employees?  We’d love to hear.

  7. Need an ice breaker for your staff meeting?

by Katie O'Neil in Category: At Your Center/School,For The Adults,PACE

A fun ice breaker for staff meetings is to ask teachers to name any child they’ve worked with past or present that the will never forget and why.  It usually inspires others to hear the impact that the child/student/teacher have had on each other.

  8. Managing Stress Checklist

by Katie O'Neil in Category: At Your Center/School,For The Adults,PACE

    Good management culture exists when:

◊  employees are valued, respected and supported

◊  health issues are treated seriously by the organization

Demands on staff are at the right level when:

◊  staff are able to cope with the volume and complexity of the work

◊  work is scheduled sensibly so that there is enough time to carry out the allocated tasks and individuals are not expected to work excessively long hours

    Staff feel in control when:

◊  they are given a say in how they do their work

◊  the amount of control they have is balanced with thedemands placed upon them.

    Good relatiohships exist when:

◊  there is good communication between supervisors and employees

◊  employees are not bullied or harassed

◊  supervisors regularly provide fair and specific feedback on the work done

◊  supervisors ensure that rewards (salary, promotions and allocation of tasks) are perceived as fair and in proportion with competence and effort

Good change management exists when supervisors:

◊  communicate to employees the reason why change is essential

◊  involve employees and recognize their views

◊  clearly understand the objective of the change

◊  ensure a supportive climate for employees

    Employees understand their roles when:

◊  they know how this fits in with the organizations wider aims and objectives

◊  jobs are clearly defined to avoid confusion

Good training and support practice exists when:

◊  employees receive suitable and sufficient training to do their jobs

◊  employees receive support from their supervisors, even when things go wrong

◊  the organization encourages people to share their concerns about health and safety and work-related stress

◊  the individual is fair to the employer – they discuss their concerns and work towards agreed solutions
